Vision for a Dynamic Elkhart County

Elkhart County may have its challenges - a lack of ambition is not among them. The entrepreneurial ambition and creativity that has long defined the region is once-again evident in the continuing efforts of the Elkhart County Horizon Project.

Long before the national economic crisis of 2008 and the subsequent collapse of the county’s manufacturing base, the transformation of the local economy was at the forefront of the minds of local business, civic, and government leaders. Concerned about predictors of a troubled economic future, they developed the Horizon Plan, a comprehensive vision for the community, economy, and quality of life in Elkhart County. The fortuitous action of this group provides current leaders with a playbook for moving Elkhart County into the next decade of development.

In 2009, a new team of Horizon leadership emerged with the goal of sharpening focus on key areas from the original plan. The Horizon 2.0 Team is determined to build upon the original plan, address current issues, and leverage the necessary funding to instigate action and accountability.
